feel_human | saturday night and the moon is out

Tucked away off the road in Bon Temps, there's a road house. Warm light spills from its windows, and the sound of a jukebox playing drifts out into the muggy Louisiana night. The regular assortment of trucks and Hail-Mary-please-keep-this-lemon-goin'-just-a-little-longer cars sit in the dirt parking lot; what amounts to about half the town's small population... or, at least, of those of the 'drinking age and above' persuasion.

Inside, it's a bar of the type scattered all across the American South: homey, no-nonsense. Booths and tables. A man in a plaid flannel shirt wiping the bar; a crossdresser in the kitchen singing Gospel hymns and rolling his hips in time with the words just to scandalize the prep cook. A handful of waitresses, bustling about.

Sookie makes her way briskly through it all, a tray balanced on her palm and her eyes kept stubbornly front, as voices swarm around her. Aloud, and... less so.

...I’m just going to have one beer tonight Jesus one beer that’s all...

...better not gripe about me eating fries not after what I did for him last night...

...I cannot wait to get the hell out of this podunk town...

"Well, make sure you do, and before it’s too late," she responds, thoughtless, to the young man. "Because every year you wait? You just get more and more stuck here. Believe me, I know."

He stares at her. So do his parents.

So does the other table. And she realizes, too little too late, that he hadn't said that out loud, not at all. She laughs, uncomfortable. "I’ll get y'all some ketchup," she says, brightly, and flees, ponytail swinging against the nape of her neck as she goes.

Stupid, Sookie, she chides herself. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

She inhales, slow, and closes her eyes to focus on the way his hands feel as they track over her skin, mapping every curve. When she opens her eyes again, they're dark and drowsy and full of lazy desire, watching him back. There's a faint frisson of nerves, seeing him kneeling there between her legs, but it doesn't overtake her; she just watches him, trusting, her body moving like a wave under his hands.

He settles back on his lower legs and curves his hands over her hips, then along her inner thighs in the same teasing strokes before he runs his fingers over her center, brushing back and forth, caressing the sensitive bud, and not going deeper.

She is sore, and feels more than a little bruised, but he's so gentle it doesn't hurt at all, only feels impossibly good.

"I've got you," he murmurs. Sam spreads one hand over her belly, stroking her there lightly as he continues to brush his fingers over her center, teasing and soft and very, very attentive.

Sookie moans, her head pushing back, hair spreading over the blanket. Each gentle stroke sends shudders of sensation through her, until her breathing comes fast and light and she shifts restlessly, arching her back and rocking her hips.

He keeps his hand flat against her middle, providing an anchor point for her, and leans down over her to kiss the curve of her breast and draw her nipple into his mouth, laving her with his tongue.

All the while, his fingers continue to dance over her, coaxing every bit of sensation that he can from her.

She arches up into his mouth, warm and wet and wonderful, with another gasp and a shudder, moaning softly as he plays her like an instrument. Only once does she take a sharp breath and flinch, very slightly, when he presses a little too hard on a sore spot. "Gently," she murmurs, even though she herself wants more, and more, and more.

But they have time. Some time, at least. Enough to take their time today.

"Sorry," he murmurs, his breath warm against her skin. Sam brushes his fingertip lightly over the place that had caused her to flinch, then shifts away from it, consciously maintaining a more delicate touch as he caresses her.

He kisses his way across her chest to her other breast and gives it the same focused attention, continuing to gently pet her stomach now as well.

The sweet, light brush of his fingers is almost enough to make her come undone again entirely, especially when combined with the focused attention he's paying to her breasts. She runs her own hands up over his shoulders and curves her fingers at the back of his head, shivering as he kisses her and sets his tongue against her, allowing him to coax her out of the world, adrift on a lazy river of pleasure.

More than anything in this moment, he wants her to enjoy this; wants to feel her shudder apart in bliss without pain or discomfort, wants to be right here with her, enjoying each breath and shift and soft sound, feeling the way she moves under him and holds on to him. Sam gives himself wholly over to doing everything he can to cause her to feel as much joy as possible, losing himself in her.

Her fingers curl into his hair as her breathing speeds, and when he circles lightly over a spot that makes her see stars, she moans. "There," she manages. "Oh, Sam – "

It builds up and builds up and builds up with each gentle stroke and circle of his fingers until she's panting for breath, and then it all lets loose at once in a full-body shake as she cries out.

He circles that spot with his fingers and flutters his tongue against her as she tips over the edge into free fall, driving her to the highest peak possible, but before she can become oversensitive he pulls back, cupping his hand against her to ease her down and kissing the side of her neck before he takes her into his arms and holds her close against him.

She curls, boneless, into his arms, more by instinct than anything else, because her mind feels pleasantly like an inflated balloon and all she can think to do is try to catch her breath.

"Whew," she murmurs, when she can, and lets out a long breath. "You are somethin' else."

She gives a drowsy huff of laughter and cuddles close. "Comin' from you, that actually sounds like a good thing."

"It is a good thing." He draws her against him and strokes her back with lazy, soothing circles.

She's heard some of his thoughts; she knows he knows what it's like to be different.

But he likes her anyway, and she likes him anyway, or maybe they like each other because of it, at least partly. She exhales and closes her eyes, focusing on the touch of his hand over her back. "That feels nice."

"It's supposed to." He presses a light kiss to her hair, smiling into it. She's sweet and kind in so many ways, and right now he feels so lucky to be able to spend this day with her.

It's a good thing she's off today, because she can't imagine wanting to do anything with her time aside from this: just lying here with him, warm and cozy, the smell of summer all around them and nobody near to bother them at all. "Comfy?"

“Yes. Are you?” He raises his head to look down at her.

"Mm-hm. You're so nice and warm, and I'm so relaxed."

And his arms feel so good around her. "I don't want to move an inch."

Sam’s smile is warm. “You don’t have to,” he promises. “We can stay right here for as long as you want.”

"Good," she murmurs, and lets her eyes close as she slips an ankle over his. "I'm so happy to have today off to spend with you."

“I am, too. That you have the day off, I mean.”

There’s no reason to think that they’re in any danger here, not in the light of day, so Sam encourages, “Take a nap, if you want.”
